SaveTheGuns.com Gun Safety Tip of the Month Please contribute this month if you have not done so before. More than 90,000 children have learned something about gun safety from my Web site. If you ever have the unhappy circumstance to have to shoot a firearm at another person in order to protect yourself, your family, your friends or your business, there are gun safety rules that still have to be obeyed. Obeying these basic firearm safety rules, while at the same time, fighting for your life will not be easy. Keeping gun safety in mind as well as basic marksmanship skills while firing at another human being needs training and mental preparation. Keep in mind that the assailant who is the target of your efforts, might also be trying to poke holes in you as well. Having a mindset that has safety concerns in the forefront during an attack takes a lot of mental toughness and tons of training. Even though the attack may be one of the most significant events during your lifetime, you still must be aware of your target and what is behind and beyond it. If you fire at someone who is attempting to murder you and you miss your target, where that bullet ends up could change your life just as much as the initial attack itself. If you're attacked in a Wal-Mart parking lot or shopping mall garage and you are suddenly and viciously attacked and you are well within your rights to fire a gun in self defense, but three out of your four shots go through the front windows of the store and injure an innocent person, you'll be very sorry, that you didn't take the time to train and focus properly. The safety of everyone around you should be the primary concern if you habitually carry a concealed firearm in public. Sure, the Heller case wasn't perfect, but it was a whole lot better than losing. It is our solemn responsibility to hold our elected officials to the opinion of the majority in D.C. v Heller. President Obama News President Obama is no friend of the right to keep and bear arms. I'm quite frankly shocked that he got so many votes from gun owning citizens, given his terrible background on Second Amendment issues. Oh how I wish that we could get just 10% of America's gun owners in the National Rifle Association to help fight the coming battles...(join now) His Chief of Staff, his pick for United States Attorney General and many others in his cabinet and administration are rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth anti-gun zealots. With the national mainstream news media being so openly and brazenly in his pocket during the 2008 election process, we can expect a barrage of news stories standing behind the advancing tide of gun control. If there isn't any major gun control legislation passed and signed by him before this coming summer 2009 is out, I would be VERY surprised. In fact, I've made a cash bet with an acquaintance of mine that we will see a major gun control bill make it to President Obama's desk in his first year. That's a bet I felt comfortable making. Stay informed and stay united and we will prevail. It would be great to have ten percent (10%) of America's law abiding gun owners in the National Rifle Association, but that means that every current NRA member would have to send one (1) friend here to sign up. As I've mentioned at the top of this month's issue U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder shot a cannonball across the bow of the Second Amendment when he said:
The intention of the Obama Administration has been made clear by Attorney General Eric Holder this past Thursday with the statement above. Whether or not Attorney General Holder tipped President Obama's hand too early is a story for history to tell. President Obama has hinted a few times that he has a desire to bring back the 1994-2004 semi-auto ban and prohibition on magazines over ten (10) rounds AND MAKE IT PERMANENT. The Obama Administration has a desire to permanently prohibit these firearms, which are VERY clearly protected by the Second Amendment. I have overheard some discussions involving the prohibition of many models of semi-automatic carbine. Almost universally, the anti-gun zealot will say something like this "Well what do you need one of those assault weapons for anyway?" When the pro-gunner stumbles, stutters and mumbles incoherently to this affront, I cringe in pain. We need not stumble over the boisterous jackass who attempts to insult us and back us into a corner or label us as ignorant red-neck buffoons. This is how I usually respond to such an antagonistic slant of questioning. I normally respond back with a question. 'What exactly do you know about the considerable limitations of common handgun ammunition and most shotguns when dealing simultaneously with multiple armed assailants?' When confronted with the inevitable "What do you need one of those for?" line of questioning, you simply MUST take full advantage of the fact that your opponent in this debate knows almost nothing about firearms. Semi-automatic centerfire short-barreled carbines that can accept higher capacity magazines are the quintessential (ideal) firearm for self defense use against multiple armed assailants bar none. There is nothing better. Sure some may disagree with me, but I'd insist that the typical semi-automatic carbine such as those that would be banned by the numerous anti-gun zealots in the Obama Administration, are the best firearm for this situation. The only way I would back down from that statement would be if the confrontation were to take place in a very crowded area filled with innocent bystanders, where you likely would not have access to a semi-automatic carbine anyhow. If the Founding Fathers were here with us today, living amongst us in today's time, they would seek to own a firearm that would give them to most stopping power and ammunition capacity lawfully available to them. Yes, the Second Amendment does indeed protect short barreled, large capacity semi-automatic carbines, just as it protects any other firearm that is in current use. To say that our right to keep and bear arms does not protect these carbines, clearly demonstrates ignorance and a huge lack of knowledge of the issue. Another thing to think about is that we may not need a high capacity semi-automatic carbine to go to armed combat with our own government in modern times. However, what if our great, great grandchildren are embroiled in tyranny and despotism here in the United States of America more than one hundred years from now and we've already voluntarily given our rights to keep and bear such firearms which would have facilitated their success in fighting to regain their freedom? Would our great, great grandchildren look back on us with disdain and ask where were we when the American people gave up our ability to fight back with effective firearms? Thomas Jefferson thought at one time that in the newly born United States of America, there would likely be a fresh revolution every few decades.
What if we were to voluntarily give up our rights to own paramilitary semi-automatic carbines which would allow us to effectively resist a despotic government in America's future? At some point, our descendents would be cursing at us for lying down and not fighting for our rights when we could have and should have.
If we chose not to fight the oncoming storm of anti-gun legislation when we can win the battle without bloodshed, all history will look down at us with shame and disdain when the time comes that these types of arms are very necessary. Our descendents may be forced into a fight that they cannot win. At some point, perhaps more than one hundred years from now, our posterity may really need the short-barreled semi-automatic high capacity carbine that even some pro-gun people don't see a current need for. I, for one American tenaciously refuse to have my descendents look back with disdain upon me, because I chose to lay myself down, give up and chose not to do battle with the anti-gun forces at work in America at this very moment in time. Okay so what can we do and where do we stand? Well I believe that Attorney General Eric Holder shot that quote I mentioned above across our bow to try and ascertain America's sentiments and willingness to go back down the road of the 1994 semi-auto ban. Now is the time to be as loud as possible and shut down the hopes of the anti-gunners. Let's take this opportunity and seize the moment. The Obama Administration is in the process of testing the waters to see how warm or how cool America is toward going back down the road of prohibiting hundreds of models of semi-automatic carbines and limiting magazine capacities to ten rounds on a permanent basis. Let's show them how frigid America is toward another openly unconstitutional firearm ban. What to do?
Now is the time to act decisively. If we sit on our hands and say amongst ourselves, 'oh no, here comes another semi-auto ban'. It will surely be introduced, passed and signed into permanent law. If however, we send an avalanche of communications to the White House telling them a semi-automatic ban will not be tolerated we can nip this problem in the bud and stop it before it even starts. What temperature do you want the water to be when the Obama Administration tests the waters for a permanent ban on semi-autos? It's up to you now. Seize the day.
