First of all, Happy New Year to all of my Jewish friends! On Tuesday November 4th we will elect a new leader of the free world. On Election Day 2008, either Barack Obama or John McCain will become the keeper of the flame of human freedom on planet Earth. Election Day is a little over one month away and the time to seriously consider this decision has come. In thirty five (35) days, as a nation, we will appoint our leader with our votes. If you're planning to vote for Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), you need to know that his furtive rhetoric about supporting the Second Amendment's protections of our right to keep and bear arms runs completely contrary to his record and his words prior to running for this most high of political offices. If you're planning to vote for Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) for President of the United States and you are a law-abiding gun owner, you have a responsibility to maintain membership in the National Rifle Association to help keep him and Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) in check. years." SaveTheGuns.com Gun Safety Tip of the Month The gun safety tip of the month comes from a recent tragedy on August 28th. The story is linked below, hopefully the link will still work. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,425302,00.html It tells of a two year old, who removed a loaded handgun from a nightstand while unsupervised and shot himself through the eye and subsequently died as a result. I don't wish to add to the misery of these parents by being harshly critical of them, but this issue needs to be addressed. All the parents did is to verbally warn a toddler of only two years, that he would receive 'bad boo boos' if he played around with the readily accessible and loaded firearm. A two year old does not have the capacity to understand and fully grasp the potential harm of his/her actions with a firearm. The parents had a responsibility to secure this loaded firearm away from the toddler and not simply trust that the two year old, probably just barely out of diapers, does not mishandle the loaded firearm. Thankfully, this type of accident is rare and likely only occurs ten to fifteen times each year. For 2001, children under five years old died just fifteen (15) times from accidental discharges. This particular child named Wyatt in the above story was one of these tragic deaths for 2008. To most people in the United States young Wyatt's death will go unnoticed in a sea of stories that grab our attention everyday. But to the Matteau family, Wyatt was more than just an unnoticed statistic. If anyone you know is keeping a loaded firearm fully accessible to children that are too young to comprehend the danger and to follow simple instructions, please forward them this story and tell them that they have a responsibility to make sure a toddler like two year old Wyatt is properly protected from actions that he doesn't understand or cannot maintain responsibility for. About once a month, parents of children under five (5) years old have to make funeral arrangements for their children, because they leave fully loaded firearms readily accessible to unsupervised toddlers and preschoolers. This tragedy must be totally overwhelming for the parents and grandparents and it's something that needs to be addressed and prevented. Please contribute this month if you have not done so before. Despite his current rhetoric that he supports the Second Amendment, Barack Obama has consistently opposed lawful and honest gun owners at every turn. He is virtually insulated from harsh criticism from the mainstream media. Make no mistake about it, a President Obama would be a friend to anti-gunners throughout the world and a domestic enemy of the Second Amendment. I stop short of endorsing John McCain for President of the United States, but a President Barack Obama would be disastrous for law abiding American gun owners and would mean almost nothing in the minds of the violent career criminal. In fact, I have taken the thoughts from a blog that I read recently which said "I'm voting for Sarah Palin and whoever is running with her." After Barack Obama chose the anti-gun zealot Senator Joe Biden (D-DE), I chose to stand behind Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) for President of the United States. An Obama and Biden Administration would set back the Second Amendment dozens of years, while John McCain has changed his positions on a couple of firearm issues and poses an insignificant threat to the Second Amendment. Vote your conscience on November 4th, but risking an Obama-Biden Administration with a Democrat-led Congress and we'll suffer as a result. Minuteman Monthly Newsletter Aiming Point The Minuteman Monthly Newsletter's aiming point for October 2008 is focused solely upon the very quickly approaching election. In fact, hopefully you're aware, Election Day 2008 is on Tuesday November 4th., just 35 days away from the date this newsletter was originally sent. Each year that involves the election of a new President of the United States, it is commonly heard that this is the most important election in many decades or perhaps ever. This election will join those of years past and I will boldly state that this election could well be a turning point in the history of America and maybe human freedom itself. I believe that without a doubt, the next four years will drastically affect the United States of America and our future. We are at a crossroads of many crises at the same time. The national debt is outrageous and growing. The Congress is bailing out or taking over just about every financial institution in the country who was involved with giving away mortgage loans to people who couldn't afford them. This smacks of Socialism and it's likely going to get worse. Enemy terrorists continue to plan in secret for their next futile attempt to intimidate the free citizens of the United States. Rogue countries who thumb their noses at their neighbors and the rest of international community such as Russia and Iraq, will make progress toward their unjust goals, whatever they may be... Social Security will be one more clear and decisive step toward total failure without significant reforms. Energy independence will be just a pleasant idea in the well-intentioned minds of American voters without strong leadership toward producing our own energy. The strength of the American dollar will continue to weaken without powerful economic stewardship and expert guidance through monetary policy and sound economics. Without decisive action in slashing federal spending, increasing revenue and monetary reforms, the U.S. dollar will be worth about as much as the Sri Lankan Rupee in a few years. Congressional and executive branch overspending will proceed unabated and our budget deficits and national debt will soar even further out of control without a significant reining in of federal spending. Our very position on the world's stage could be seriously diminished if the next four years show a lack of progress toward significant improvement on these issues. There will likely be at least two, perhaps three new United States Supreme Court Justices appointed by the next administration. With the landmark Heller case on the Second Amendment passing with just a one vote margin of 5-4, can freedom-loving Americans really afford the kind of Associate Justices to the United States Supreme Court that would be appointed by an Obama-Biden Administration and a very liberal Senate Judiciary Committee? I think not. A new Obama-Biden Supreme Court and Justice Department would quickly demolish any perceived gains of the pro-Second Amendment crowd won by the Heller case. All these things and more will become central issues in the next four years. Four years from this day on September 30, 2012, we will either be elated at our progress or dismayed by the lack of it. All these things lie upon the shoulders of the American people on Tuesday November 4th of 2008. Those of you who know me personally would be aware that I'm a life-long Libertarian leaning conservative Republican. That's likely not a surprise to most of you. It would be great to have an ideal President and Vice President that we would be ecstatic to cast a vote for, but that has not occurred in my lifetime and it likely will never happen. There are some who think that a vote for Ron Paul, Bob Barr or some other candidate that they agree with more is best for them, just weeks ago, I was among you. While I respect this judgment, there are really only two candidates that have a chance to become the next President of the United States and that is simply reality. We obviously have a choice between Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) and Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) or Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK). These are really only the two choices we have on Election Day 2008. As far as my own opinion goes, I had intended upon a 'protest vote' for Bob Barr if John McCain had picked anyone other than Gov. Sarah Palin. I echo the message I read on a blog at the United States Concealed Carry Association when it was said that "I'm voting for Sarah Palin and whoever is running with her." John McCain has never received anything higher than a "C" rating from the National Rifle Association or the Gun Owners of America. In contrast, both Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both received consistent "F"s. Make no mistake about this fact; Obama-Biden '08 is the anti-gun Dream Team. Some would say that the D.C. v Heller decision in the United States Supreme Court will keep an Obama-Biden anti-gun dream team in check. I would disagree wholeheartedly. D.C. V Heller has not even had an affect upon Washington D.C. itself without Congressional action on the matter. An Obama-Biden Administration would thumb their nose at both the Second Amendment and the U.S. Supreme Court if elected. An Obama Administration and a Democrat-led Senate Judiciary Committee would appoint Associate Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who would emulate Associate Justices Ginsburg, Breyer and Stevens. Freedom could not withstand such a thing and the Heller case would certainly be seriously diminished with subsequent firearm related cases in a decidedly more liberal high court. I could go on and on about how destructive I believe an Obama-Biden Administration would be and examine every issue that I mentioned at the outset, but I simply don't have that kind of time or space to do so. However, let me give you some reasons to vote McCain-Palin on November 4th, through some sourced quotations directly from the mouth of Barack Obama. A Barack Obama supporter might still want to support him for President of the United States not being aware of where he stands on certain gun-related issues. Well let's look at the issues and how Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) actually stands on these issues.
Barack Obama even supported a bill to prohibit federally licensed firearm dealers from opening a business within five (5) miles of any school. Can you honestly think of any sporting goods retailer who has a federal firearm license and sells firearms, who is not within five miles of a school? This bill that he endorsed would likely force more than 95% of licensed firearm dealers out of business or would at least force them to move their businesses to the most rural areas of each county. In a very short while, it will be time to vote for the man who will lead the United States of America into the future. Barack Obama's associations and support from admitted terrorist Bill Ayers, Chicago's Trinity Church of Christ's former pastor Jeremiah Wright, and Nation of Islam's Louis Farrakhan, makes me seriously question his judgment. The fact that Barack Obama started his Presidential Exploratory Committee after just 143 days of service in the United States Senate, without ever having any type of prior executive experience, would make him one of the least qualified Presidents in history if elected. Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and everyone else we normally consider an ultra-liberal in the United States Senate are more conservative than Obama. Yes, even the self-described "Democratic Socialist" Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), was found to be further to the right of Barack Obama by the National Journal. All of the above, along with the fact that Barack Obama voted to continue the heinous and monstrous practice of late-term and partial-birth abortions and voted to deny medical care to babies who survive botched abortion procedures, makes my choice for President and Vice President of the United States John McCain and Sarah Palin. On Tuesday November 4th, the whole nation will get to have their say on the matter. I respect the political opinions of Barack Obama supporters. The Second Amendment is not the only issue on the nation's plate. There are plenty of pro-gun Democrats in our nation as well. However, Barack Obama is not one of them. If you're a law-abiding firearm owner, concerned about your right to keep and bear arms, but you still intend upon casting a vote for Barack Obama on November 4th, then I believe you have a responsibility to maintain membership in the National Rifle Association to keep him and Senator Biden in check. I simply cannot warn America's law abiding firearm owners any more than I already have. I remember VERY well how it felt during the Clinton Administration watching the Reno Justice Department diminish and infringe upon our Second Amendment. I hated that horrible feeling of helplessness as I watched my Second Amendment being infringed upon before my eyes and being almost powerless to stop it. There are about eighty five to ninety million (85,000,000 to 90,000,000) law abiding gun owners in the United States. 122,267,553 American citizens voted for the President of the United States in 2004. The law abiding firearm owners of the United States constitute the single largest voting bloc of all. IT'S UP TO US IN JUST THIRTY FIVE DAYS.
